Reminders for Families

Tomorrow, Lifetouch Photography will be on campus for picture make-ups or re-takes. Student Council will be doing their Shoeboxes for Hope collection. Friday is also the last day for the Book Fair and Parent/Teacher Conferences.  On Monday, November 10, we'll go back to our regular schedule with school ending at 2:05.  On Tuesday, school will be closed for Veteran's Day.  Please check our website or call the school at 626-3350 if you have any questions or concerns.

Parent Conferences Begin This Week

Friendly reminder... Parent Conferences begin this week.  Students will be dismissed at 12:30 p.m. daily for Parent-Teacher Conferences held October 27-November 7.  The conferences will begin at 1:15 p.m. and are 20 minutes in length.  Please be prompt for your scheduled conference time. If someone picks your child up after school, please let them know about the early dismissal time
during conferences.  A+ will begin at 12:30 p.m. on conference days.

Update - Tropical Storm Ana

With Tropical Storm Ana expected to strengthen over the next 12 hours, the Hawaii State Department of Education (DOE) will close all public schools on Hawaii Island on Friday, Oct. 17. Closures are being made in anticipation of severe weather. All other schools will remain open.

Events for Wednesday, 9/17

Aloha, Golden Eagles...

We have several events coming up Wednesday, 9/17:

Kona Shave Ice from 12:30 to 2:30 pm on the play field.  We'll have 2 trucks this time and hope to keep wait times shorter than the last time.  Mahalo to everyone who stood in line - some for as much as 90 minutes - to enjoy their shave ice.  Students who attend A+ will be escorted by their leaders to join the line at 1:30 pm.

Kindergarten Open House will be held from 4:30 to 5:30 pm in D107 to D112.  Kindergarten parents are invited to come see what their children have been learning during the first few weeks of school.

Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) Meeting from 6 - 7 pm in the library.  Please join us for our monthly board meeting - all are welcome!

Update on A+ Program

A+ after school program will run as scheduled until 5:30 p.m.

Update on Kindergarten Orientation

Due to the school closure on Friday, 8/8/2014, the Kindergarten Parent Orientation has been rescheduled to Monday, 8/11/2014, from 8:30 - 10:00 a.m.  ALL kindergarten parents should report to the cafeteria for a presentation by the teachers on curriculum and other school procedures.

Students in Group A should come to school as scheduled on Monday and report to the cafeteria at 8:30 a.m. along with their parents.  From there, our IRA Resource Teachers will provide supervision of students during the kindergarten teacher presentations.  After 10:00, Students in Group A will report to their classrooms for the rest of the school day and be dismissed at 2:05 p.m.

Students in Group B will attend school on Tuesday, August 12 as scheduled.  (Please do not bring them with you to the orientation on Monday.)

On Wednesday, 8/13, kindergarten students will start attending school with their whole class.

(Note:  Plans are subject to change due to changing severe weather conditions.)

All DOE schools and offices are closed tomorrow, Friday, 8/8/2014.

All extracurricular activities are cancelled for Friday, 8/8/2014 and Saturday, 8/9/2014.

Updates for Emergencies

Please check the school website and our social media links for the latest updates on any emergency situations.  If there is a school closing for Mililani Mauka you will receive phone calls through our School Connects emergency contact system.  The Department of Education will also continue to make announcements through the news media.

At this time, Mililani High and Waialua High & Intermediate have been activated as emergency shelters.  For Mililani Mauka, only the portable classrooms have been identified as possible emergency shelters - and we have NOT been activated yet by Oahu Civil Defense (we are listed to be activated only as a last resort).

We are still scheduled to be open for school on Thursday and Friday.  5th Grade Orientation is still being held this evening at 5 p.m. in the 5th Grade Classrooms.

Reminders for SY 2014-15

New student registration begins on June 18. Registration hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Class lists for 2014-15 for grades 1-5 will be posted on July 22. Kindergarten class lists will be posted after 4:00 p.m. on August 7.

Meet & Greet for grades 1-5 will be on July 30 from 4:30-6:00 p.m. followed by new parent orientation in the café at 6:00 p.m.

Aloha Festivals Poster Contest


Student Chloe Zentkovich participated in a 2014 Aloha Festivals Poster Design Contest and she is one of five finalist to compete and she is representing Mililani Mauka Elementary School. The design theme this year was Maluhia Honua (World Peace with Aloha) to honor the worldwide voyage of the Hokulea promoting peace. There will be a voting process on Aloha Festivals facebook page until June 16th. The person with the most "likes" will win. Chloe's submission is the Hokulea with King Kamehameha releasing a Hawaiian sea bird to bring a floral lei to the children on the world. Summer School Update

Any family who turned in payment and application will be able to attend summer school.

Official letters of acceptance will be sent out on Monday, 5/12/14.

We'll be able to offer the following classes:

Kindergarten - 2 classes
1st Grade - 2 classes

Kindergarten and 1st Grade classes will rotate among 4 teachers who will teach math, computers, PE, and art.

2nd Grade - 2 classes
3rd Grade - 2 classes

2nd and 3rd Grade classes will rotate among 4 teachers who will teach math, PE, Hawaiian Studies, and technology.

4th Grade - 1 class
5th Grade - 1 class

4th & 5th Grade classes will rotate among 2 teachers who will teach science, math and computer game design.

Mauka Wins Kokua Foundation Recycling Contest!

Thank you to the Kokua Foundation for bringing Jack Johnson to visit our students during a lunch time concert.  Thanks to everyone for collecting plastic bottle caps - with everyone's help we were able to collect the most bottle caps in weight across the state.  Thanks also to Mr. Miyagi and our Student Council.  Way to go, Golden Eagles!
