On March 11, 2010, the members of Mililani Mauka’s Science Club participated in a Toothbrush Bot Competition held after school in the library. A toothbrush bot is a toothbrush “robot” made from a toothbrush, motor, and battery. There are three major events to a toothbrush bot competition: speed challenge (where toothbrush bot race each other on a track); jousting challenge (where two toothbrush bots go head-to-head with each other to see which one will push its opponent backwards); and sumo challenge (where toothbrush bots have 30 seconds to either push their opponent out of the ring or stay closest to the center of the ring). There was also a team spirit competition and a most creative design challenge held at this event.
Students had fun designing, constructing, and testing their own toothbrush bots. Congratulations to the following winners:
- Most Creative Toothbrush Bot Award:Noah Rodrigues
- Team Spirit Award: Noah Rodrigues and David Suzuki
- Speed Challenge Award: Chloey Ishii
- Jousting Challenge Award: Shelby Arakawa
